Xterra Wetsuits Dominates Texas 70.3 and U.S Collegiate Nationals

Xterra Wetsuits’ athletes are victorious at the start of the 2011 season

SAN DIEGO, CA – Ironman champion and American professional triathlete, Chris Lieto, knocked out a stellar international men’s field with a blazing swim, fastest bike time, and supersonic run at last weekend’s Ironman 70.3 Texas. Lieto beat Denmark’s Rasmus Henning, a two-time, top 10 Olympian and former European Champion, American Tim O’Donnell, the 2009 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Champion, and last year’s winner and 2009 Ironman 70.3 World Champion, Terenzo Bozzone of New Zealand.

Lieto’s 3:45 victory was well earned. His competition agrees - “there was nothing I could do about Lieto today,” said 2nd place finisher Henning in a press release.

Lieto, a former college water polo player and surfer from Danville, California, has been training for the past few months in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, where in October 2009 he was the runner-up at the Ironman World Championships. Life on the Big Island has afforded him more time with his two kids and wife, time to pursue his charity work with More than Sport, performance nutrition with Base Performance, and train on the same lava fields as he’ll be racing this October.

“Chris Lieto is a world-class athlete and XTERRA WETSUITS is proud to support him. Chris’ reach is beyond triathlon as he inspires others to perform their best, no matter the sport,” says CEO Glynn Turquand.

Texas wasn’t the only place XTERRA WETSUITS scored big this weekend - at the USA Triathlon Collegiate Nationals last Saturday, Karl “Rudy” Kahsar of the University of Colorado won the men’s individual title in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Kahsar won the race with a time of 1:57:04. Wearing his XTERRA WETSUITS Vector Pro X2, Kahsar swam in the front, alongside a handful of the top collegiate triathletes, and soon took the lead on the bike, controlling the rest of the race with Dustin McLarty.

Sponsoring nearly 1,000 clubs, teams, and athletes worldwide, XTERRA WETSUITS supports triathletes and swimmers of all levels - from collegiate to professional to age-groupers to challenged athletes. “We have very close relationships with our sponsored groups and athletes, and we believe they have made XTERRA WETSUITS the #1 triathlon wetsuit company,” remarked Brian Walters, president of XTERRA WETSUITS.
